    The thought didn't occur to me previously – it makes sense that people from the third world, who are desensitized to danger (sometimes just by circumstances, other times culturally) will have an advantage in “extreme sports”.

    Interesting observation. Skateboarding and other extreme sports have been used as therapy for youth in the USA, so you might be on to something.
